Disney has captured the heart of many children and adults with its animated films. Whether it's one of the best Pixar movies or an animated classic like The Little Mermaid, most folks have a favorite they can point to with fond memories. And it's that nostalgia that Disney Dreamlight Valley taps into to make a fun and addicting life-sim adventure game.
While the gameplay of this Disney game is fairly simple, there are various quests and discoveries you have to get through to enjoy it to its full extent. If you're looking for a little extra help navigating your way through the game, you can take a look at our full Disney Dreamlight Valley wiki guide or dive right into some of these quick tips below.
Complete Dreamlight Duties
As you progress through the main story quest with Merlin, you will eventually find that Dreamlight is an integral part of unlocking new areas. There are multiple ways of gaining Dreamlight, but the most efficient way is through completing specific Dreamlight Duties. Theses are a random series of daily duties that will rotate throughout your gameplay, but there are also quite a few tasks that are always available to you. Completing these is fairly simple, if not time consuming after a while. For example, you can complete foraging tasks simply by gathering ingredients and cooking tasks from turning your finds into food.
Earn Star Coins Quickly
The more you play Disney Dreamlight Valley, the more it becomes apparent that you're going to need a lot of Star Coins to get everything done. It isn't until you reach the quest Making Cents of Things that money truly becomes a staple in the game. While it would be easy to blame Scrooge McDuck for bringing capitalism into the valley, it wouldn't be a true life-sim without some sort of economy. If you want to learn how to get Star Coins fast, the first thing you will need to do is start mining minerals and catching fishing with friends that have specific roles in those areas. These are the quickest ways to start getting some funds to purchase houses and furniture.
Unlock Animal Companions
There are tons of cute little animals running around Dreamlight Valley. And although these cute little critters are all over the place, it's easy to miss the fact that you can convince them to become your adorable companion. You can approach them and give them food in exchange for dream shards, but if you know their favorite foods, you will potentially be able to unlock them as a companion. Take a look at our full Critters Guide to learn their favorite foods, where to find them, and how to unlock these fuzzy companions.
Learn to Cook High Energy Food
Although Star Coins are important for making purchases, you can really only move forward in Dreamlight Valley by expending energy. Whether you're completing tasks or just removing Night Thorns from an area, you're eventually going to run out of energy if you aren't careful. And while you can pretty easily survive just eating raw fruit and veggies for a time, you will eventually need to learn how to make meals in Dreamlight Valley to avoid needing to recharge constantly. You can learn how to make new recipes the fastest by completing Remy's quest and learning how to make Ratatouille. You can also find additional new recipes by exploring and completing various other questlines. Once you know how to make a few 5-Star meals, you'll be set.
Be Efficient With Your Inventory
One of the most important beginner tips for Disney Dreamlight Valley is that you need to be as efficient as possible with your inventory. Even though you can stack similar items, if you find yourself picking up everything you see, you'll end up with a full inventory far too fast. The easiest way to avoid this is to always open clothing packs, furniture packs, and recipes as soon as you get them. You should also work on upgrading your backpack right away. You can do this by collecting 5,000 Star Coins for the first expansion, 20,000 for the second, and 50,000 for the third. It may seem like a lot of money to invest in mobile storage, but the more you can carry, the more you can sell on each trip to Goofy's cart.
You can also store any unwanted items in the chest in your home, but this also fills up fairly quickly if you aren't careful. Just don't pick up any flowers you don't need and you should be mostly okay.
Hang Out With Friends Often
If you think you're better off alone in Dreamlight Valley, then you should probably find your way back to the real world. Like most Disney movies, the magic of the land runs off of more than just energy and money, it runs off friendship. There are quite a few characters in Dreamlight Valley, and all of them are happy to follow you around if you ask them to. Once you reach level two with any of the available NPCs, you can assign them specific roles that will allow them to be helpful in the various tasks you do around the valley. This means you can get additional resources from mining, fishing, and gardening just by having them follow you around.
In addition to the extra resources you get, hanging out with friends will also allow you to progress their level even further. This opens up additional story quests for each character. Take a look at our guide on how to unlock new characters to find your favorites.
Utilize Fast Travel
Although the valley isn't particularly large, there are multiple regions in the game that can be fairly far apart from each other. Luckily, it's pretty early on in the game that you're able to unlock a form of fast travel that can make it much easier to travel from place to place. All you need to do is complete the Friendship is Everything quest from Merlin to unlock the well in the Meadow and you can start fast traveling. You will need to pay Scrooge to open up additional wells in other areas, but it's well worth it for the efficiency of travel across the map.
